Description

The University College of Bahrain (herein referred to as “UCB”) was founded in 2002 by Dr. Khalid Al-Khalifa.

UCB is licensed by the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain as a provider of higher education. UCB is a new and private university designed to provide an international teaching and learning experience entirely conducted in the English language, particularly specializing in Business Administration, Communication and Information Technology (IT).

UCB provides a rigorous curriculum (based on a semester credit hour system) in the American liberal arts tradition. Many students are drawn from the Gulf Region with about 55% female intake and an aggressive and ambitious development program is in place to grow student numbers and facilities over the next 10 years. UCB is located in its own self-contained and walled purpose-built campus in Saar. To date, UCB has graduated over 700 students from its Undergraduate and Postgraduate business and other programs. These alumni are now active members of their business communities.

The vision of University is to be the leading private University of choice in the Kingdom of Bahrain for students, and stakeholders, providing a quality assurance driven, and market-focused, education in the fields of the liberal arts and sciences, particularly business administration, information technology and the creative industries.

The mission of University is to provide academic programs of high quality, delivered through excellent teaching, informed by research and scholarship, that transforms lives, and equip graduates with the skills, knowledge and competencies, to enable them to have fulfilling careers; and meet the needs of society, government, business and the economy.

The Vision and Mission is supported by 4 focused themes:

  • Staffing – Recruiting qualified, knowledgeable and professional competent staff from the Kingdom of Bahrain and abroad to deliver excellence in learning, teaching and student support.
  • Quality – Aligning programs of study to the Kingdom of Bahrain’s quality assurance standards and international benchmarks.
  • Relevance – Ensuring programs of study are relevant to government, business and industry and informed by theoretical and applied research.
  • Engagement – Ensuring the University engages the community and adds value to students, graduates, stakeholders and society.

Values

  • Professionalism – working to high-standards of service delivery
  • Integrity – being honest, honorable and reliable
  • Excellence – being outstanding and operating above benchmarks
  • Community – working with students, staff and external stakeholders to add value to society
  • Teamwork – working together with all stakeholders in a cooperative and collegiate manner

University College of Bahrain is licensed and recognized by the Higher Education Council, Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain as a provider of higher education.

UCB was recently honored with the Paris-based EDUNIVERSAL “3 Palmes” award in its 2008 listing of recognized world universities. UCB was cited above all other business schools in the GCC countries with one exception of the much larger and massively state-funded King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, College of Industrial Management, which was awarded “4 Palmes” because of wider international recognition. In this ranking, UCB scored alongside the likes of such well-known North American institutions as: Canada’s Dalhousie University Faculty of Management and the USA’s Lehigh University College in Business & Economics.

UCB is also actively pursuing membership of leading international, accreditation bodies in its continuing commitment to quality enhancement. Additionally, it is reinforcing validation of its efforts towards quality assurance through pursuit of strategic alliances with high profile overseas partners. In this vein, UCB has recently reached an agreement to enter into a Student Exchange Program with Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST). The Business School at HKUST is ranked by the Financial Times of London as the No. 1 in Asia and students at UCB will now have the unique opportunity to undertake part of their studies at this prestigious institution.
